R.I.P. David Glen Towers Ingram

It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I must announce David's passing…

Legendary Media and Tax Guru, David Ingram, passed away February 21, 2011, from cancer.

David had been fighting this battle for several months and spent his last few days in Palliative Care in North Vancouver. He died peacefully surrounded by his family.

Many thanks for the beautiful cards and flowers he received. We extend our greatest thanks to all of you who made his last few days memorable and for the hundreds of emails he received.

This, his personal web site, will continue to gather historic content including digitized versions of many of his radio and TV appearances, as well as stories and personal glimpses from his friends and customers.

Over the past 28+ years I've been blessed by both a business relationship and friendship with David, and have been his information technologies partner, and more recently, webmaster of this and other of his sites.

Please join me in telling the world about David and his incredible impact on the local, regional, national and international stages that he was so fond of speaking from.

I am deeply saddened by the news of David's passing. Over the years I've known him he has shown me kindness and was always open hearted to listen me and to anyone who needed an ear. I found him to be such an brilliant an interesting man. I respected his depth of knowledge and his commitment to helping those in need in his expertise of US and Canadian taxes. I will miss your presence and wish your family well. God speed David and I pray that you Rest in Peace..

Love,

Sandy

TO ONE OF THE REAL MUSIC MAKERS.....
R.I.P.

"We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams.
World-losers and world-forsakers,
Upon whom the pale moon gleams;
Yet we are the movers and shakers,
Of the world forever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down.

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth."

It's just a coincidence that I happened upon this notice that one of the sweetest, kindest people we knew in the media, has now passed away. It is a shock, really. David was one of the few people who had an insatiable quest for knowledge, and a diplomacy that brought very contentious issues to the public in a way that was courteous and respectful. He interviewed people like west coast phenomenon Croft Woodruff, and others involved in natural health issues. I believe I have some old videos of some of the interviews he did during the years that he had a program on Shaw Community TV. I don't see his depth of knowledge, and big heart, anywhere else. I am just so sad to see this notice of his passing, and my heartfelt condolences to his family.

This is indeed a sad day for me...

I first met David in the very earlhy 1970s, when computers were new and he was fully engaged, as always. The office was on Lonsdale and we started a friendship that lasted for many, many years. Over time, i grew to admire and respect David first as a friend and then as a wonderful mind, always ready to explore. When he ran for mayor of Vancouver, when he did the belly flop contest, when he... Oh, there is simply too much!

Chance brought us together during the days of limited partnerships. I was with him during the time of troubles and after. Then for a time I joined his merry band in North Vancovuer and later in West Van. Along with the others of the band, I and they grew to see even his idiosycracies as endearling. Did he ever throw anything out? Old computers, magazines, even newspapers were not read and tossed, but held forever, just in case. We enjoyed long chats on slow days, topics those of the day in current affairs and so much more.

Our friendship lasted over forty years, through good times and bad, through long breaks and wonderful times together. Never a dull moment, never an unkind word. After some events in my life, I was his guest one morning for his televison program and still retain a tape fo that happy event.

It was not all a bed of roses. We differed on computers (me - the agent of the dark force of Windows) and American foreign policy, but through it all we retained respect for differences as well as our common ground, which far surpassed the differences.

David was always ready to share - to share his knowledge which was legion, to share his zest for life, to share experiences and so much more. His tales of his life were just as engtertaining as his present and both were shared with those around him. During a time when I lived with David and his family, during a dark Christmas season, banter around the dining table was never boring!

I shall always treasure my friendship with David and much regreat that I was not closer to visit him in his last days. I am sure would have been as full of laughter and companionship as our meetings always were.

My deepest sympathies to David's sons and daughter, to Gillian (a wonderufl lady), to David's ladys, known and unknown, to all those who share with me a deep sense of regret as his passing. I so wish we had had more time together, perhaps to travel in that strange motor home to the far reaches of Canada's north in one last heroic journey.

I have discovered that Unix still hates me, so I am posting this without registering, but all of you know me..

With great selfish sadness - I don't want him to be gone - for the shared times, the wonderful times, and the nicest friend anyoen could ever have...

With regrets,
Willow Arune

I only saw Mr. Ingram a handful of times on Howestreet.com in the 'tax tips' section. I know little about things tax related as my financial world is quaint. However, that never stopped me from watching the 'tax tip' snippets.

Why? Because I was taken in not necessarily by the tips themselves, as I was by the calm, fatherly nature of Mr. Ingram. A man knows this when he sees it in another Man. It is difficult to explain, but suffice to say that Mr. Ingram seemed the type that inspired confidence and calm that can only abide with the experience and wisdom of years. I trust he has left many valuable life lessons that will be passed down. One can't ask for better than that -
