In the first of 4 segments with Fred Snyder this week, David and Fred talk about how a personal mortgage can be turned into a business tax deduction for anyone who has personal business income such as rental, SOHO, or investment income outside of a corporation.
Many financial people will tell you that it is "illegal" in Canada to have your home mortgage as a tax deduction - this is absolutely not correct. They're sort of right in that this cannot be done for anyone simply earning wages - but for anyone with any other kind of income not earned through a corporate entity they control (don't incorporate - just do the business in your own name or as a "Doing Business As") then it is both straight forward and perfectly legal.
